The History of The Coughing Gherkin

The Coughing Gherkin was originally established in 2010 as a small restaurant inside The Armidale Club, historically Armidale’s most exclusive gentleman’s club, but in February 2011 moved to a larger independent premises in the East Mall of Armidale.

The Coughing Gherkin is a fun & funky establishment with an emphasis on fresh, flavoursome, low cost & informal food.  The Specialities are Pizza, Tapas & Mexican.  The food is fresh, the flavours are strong, and sharing is encouraged.

Families are welcome, and the children have not been left out, with the Tiny Gherks’ food menu for the little ones- & neither have our friends with allergies! we have many gluten and dairy free options available, as well as some vegetarian and vegan friendly options.

The Gherkin has a warm, funky and welcoming atmosphere with well informed & friendly staff, catering for those who love eating food & spending time with friends & family.

A great time for a casual outing is Taco Tuesday, come and enjoy Tacos, Coronas, Tequila sunrise or a glass of house wine, all for $5 each.

The Coughing Gherkin was the ‘baby sister’ restaurant to the modern Italian Red Grapevine restaurant and bar,  until September 2013 when the Coughing Gherkin was sold to the head chef Emma. Emma has worked at the Gherkin since the day it opened in the Armidale Club. She has enjoyed the journey the restaurant has taken & working with her dedicated team of enthusiastic staff, continue to provide full flavored modern & traditional food for regulars & newcomers alike.
